For the past ten years I have dedicated my career to pushing for change in the healthcare landscape; from advocating for better and equitable access to genetic testing to ensuring we discuss the issues that matter most to patients (usually the uncomfortable truths). That’s a decade of my life learning, evolving and bearing witness to inequity, tragedies and opportunities in health and healthcare.

Recovering from a double mastectomy at 25

I come from a family where cancer was a normal part of our lives. Every generation, every death, marred with an unknown factor… why. It wasn’t until science gave us an opportunity to receive a genetic test that verified our cancer wasn’t just a “curse” but was caused by a mutation in our genes called BRCA.

As I navigated the complexity of the health system and decisions to mitigate my risk of cancer, I decided my life would be spent searching for opportunities to make the healthcare landscape equitable, patient-centric and future focused.

My transition from patient to advocate to entrepreneur has been a rollercoaster, but never for a moment have I regretted the ride.

For the next step in my career, my purpose and mission has expanded into Humanise Health, a global patient engagement and digital agency I have created and designed to shake up the healthcare landscape. We will be elevating patient and consumer voices through co-design activities, strategies, digital content, advocacy initiatives and projects.

I’m thrilled to be launching this game-changing business in order to create a future where human centricity is the status quo. This unique model of business is more than just ethical, it also enhances outcomes for both consumers and businesses alike.

I’m proud to be leading a new team of consultants, including strategy specialists, thought leaders, patient experts, advocates, entrepreneurs, futurists and content creators from around the world. Together we will be developing solution-based strategies, ideas, building businesses’ internal capacity and providing support through a humanised lens to transform patient outcomes, alongside business vision.

I have always understood that patients are our most underutilised resource, because I am one. I have seen patients left behind in the healthcare system, treated as an afterthought, leaving them feeling disenfranchised and undervalued.

Humanise Health will take measured, pragmatic action, informed by harnessing patient knowledge and collaborative strategic thinking.

I will always remain, that young girl laying in that hospital bed determined to change not only my future, but that of future generations.

We will be the (r)evolution in health, by making health personal. We’re launching soon. Watch this space.
